Subject: Your hoses, before Thursday's freeze
Good morning! Two things are worth your time this weekend, and one of them has a Thursday deadline.
Disconnect and drain your garden hoses before Thursday. A connected hose traps water in the spigot pipe, and a hard freeze can crack that pipe inside the wall. It takes about ten minutes, and it's worth doing before the temperature drops.
Test your smoke detectors while you're at it. Detectors only work if the batteries do, and it's been six months since your last check. Budget five minutes and a chair to stand on.
Worth knowing this week: ever wonder what that metal rod is that a plumber pulls out of a water heater? That's the anode rod. It corrodes on purpose so the tank doesn't, and replacing it every few years can extend the tank's life well past its warranty.
That's the week. Have a good one, and try not to let the to-do list win.
